The Symbolism of Promotional Products

Anyone watching a football game can almost instantly recognize which team has the home-field advantage. How? The waves of school colors surrounding the playing field matching those of the players on the field. Rah! Rah! We know being a fan can mean a great deal and the gear those fans wear, from colored socks, temporary tattoos, numbered jerseys and winter hats are all used to unite people.

Causes smaller than a football team’s playoff push need participation and unifying elements as well. An underserved segment of a community or subculture may not feel connected as they stand now, but simple promotional products like pins or buttons can certainly help in building that camaraderie and feeling of togetherness.

Organizations and communities seeking to unite their constituents towards participation and non-constituents toward awareness can make good use of these promotional products. It’s not uncommon for someone seeing an unfamiliar wristband or lapel pin to ask the wearer what the cause is all about. When these items are given away at special events and worn, conversations are struck up, information is shared, awareness expands and connections are made.

Life is not a football game, but we would do well to pay
attention to those shared communities that could clearly benefit from a symbol
of unity.
